BLAKE -- I am seeking information on the Blake family. Samuel Blake m. Polly Clemments on 20 Mar 1797 in Wake Co., NC. Their son, Philip Blake was b. in Wake Co., NC ca 1800 and m. Martha Johnson. He is listed in 1840 census, 1110001 - 110001 in Maury Co., Tenn. Their son, James Blake, m. Elizabeth Fisher; their dau. Sarah Ann Blake, b. 6 Aug 1829, mar John Skipworth Love on 9 May 1847. Sarah Ann d. 21 Nov 1909 in Maury Co. When did Philip come to Maury Co.? Did he marry Martha Johnson in NC? When were they married? When did they die? BURNS, BIFFLE, LOVE -- I recently found that Miles Burns, whom I believe is my ggggrandfather, was from Maury County. I would appreciate it if someone could give info. on him. COLE, JOHNSON, GRIMES, KERR -- I am looking for information about Edward Cole and Ursula Johnson. I only know of one child, a daughter, Martha Ann Cole, b. 09 Nov 1815. She mar. Samuel Alfred Godwin, Jr. on 19 Feb 1832 in Maury Co. She d. 13 Jan 1900 in Hardin Co., TN. Also, need information about Wilson Grimes and Rachel Kerr. They mar. in Maury Co. on 04 Sep 1868. CURTIS, WILLIAMS -- I am looking for the parents of Rachel Jemima CURTIS, b. ca. 1815 in TN. and d. after 1870. She married Stephen WILLIAMS in Maury Co. in 1831. Their children were Stephen (b. 1832), Joshua (b. 1833), Franklin (b. 1835), Martha (b. 1839), Elizabeth (Vestal, b. 1841), Josephine (Harris, b. 1845), Amanda Ophelia (Lockhart, b. 1851), and Samuel Houston Williams (b. 1849), all born in Maury Co., TN. DILLINGHAM -- Would like to speak with anyone researching Dillingham surname in Maury County area. 1840 census lists three Dillinghams on same page: Berryman, Peter, and Jackson. In 1850 there are no Dillinghams listed in Maury County and Jackson had move to Bedford Co. I suspect these three Dillinghams were born in KY as I know Jackson was. Would appreciate any info. Thanks. DODSON, HAMBLETT -- There is a marriage recorded in Maury Co., TN. in 1835 of Elizabeth Hamblett, widow of William Hamblett, to a David Dodson. I really research the Hamblet line, but I can't find out enough about this particular Elizabeth Hamblet. I believe her to be Elizabeth Thurmond from Nelson Co., VA. GALE/GAYLE -- I am researching the Gale/Gayle families of Tennessee. I need to know the origin of the Maury Co. Gale families. James Gale married Mary Fleming in 1846, Sarah J. Gale married Thomas Treadway in 1838 and Eliza A. Gale married Thomas Walker in 1843, all in Maury County. Are they related to the William H. Gale who was a Cumberland Presby. minister in Lincoln, Franklin and Giles Counties in the 1840's to 1860's? William Gale was born about 1800 in Virginia and died Jackson County, Alabama in 1872. GEERS -- My g-g-grandfather was Jesse James GEERS and I am sure that he was related in some way to Edward GEERS, the great horse racer, but I am not sure just how. HAMLET, HAMBLET -- Elizabeth Hamblet, wid. of William lG. Hamlet and mother of Elias C. Hamlet and William S. Hamlet, mar. David Dodson in Maury Co., TN. He filed 22 Sep 1835 as "ex-parte" stating he was entitled to 1/3 of Hamlet's estate, Negroes mentioned and names given. Would like to locate descendants of this family. HARRIS -- Still looking for descendants of John Wesley HARRIS, who died in Columbia in 1933 and left several children. HARRIS -- Has anyone been researching the HARRIS family in Maury? In MAURY COUNTY COUSINS AND FAMILY RECORDS, 1967, pp. 250-252, there are records of JESSE HARRIS and HANNAH HARRIS. James Fisher ROACH had married Margaret HARRIS and they were living with her parents along with children Clara Ida Roach, Jesse A. M. Roach, Jack Roach, and another child. These Bible records indicated that Margaret and some of these children died young. In a 1870 census, the J. HARRIS household shows two young females living in the home. HILL -- I am looking for a William J. Hill's father and mother. William was b. in 1853 in TN. and m. Elizabeth, who was probably a Pace. William moved to Lee Co., VA. where he raised his family. He had one son, Morgan, and 6 or 7 sisters. Morgan Hill had a son, William Hill and 4 sisters. William is my great-grandfather. James Hill. (jimhill@im3.com).
HILL -- Looking for information on John Wesly HILL. My great grandfather was Albert Milton HILL and according to the 1880 census for Shelby Co., TX, John Wesly HILL was listed as Albert's father and listed Santa Fe, Maury Co., TN as his home. HOLCOMB -- Who can help with the Samuel Crawford HOLCOMB family of Maury and Henry Counties of TN? Samuel Crawford HOLCOMB (1833-1916) was son of James L. HOLCOMB and Margaret "Peggy" Love CRAWFORD. A Holbomb book says that Samuel had 3 wives: 1st, Rebecca MALONE, 2nd, Sinia GIST (m. 27 Dec 1856), and 3rd, Sarah Ann FOUST. He was born in Maury Co. and lived there until 'after the war', when he moved to Henry Co. He was a private, Co. E 12th Regt. KY Calvary. He had 2 children to live to adulthood: James C. HOLCOMB (b. 1857) and John D. HOLCOMB (b. 1871). These were in Dunklin Co., MO. by the 1880 census, living with relatives of Sinia GIST (originally from Lauderdale Co., Alabama). HUMPHRIES, CAMPBELL -- Can anyone tell me about William HUMPHRIES who signed the Petition to Form Maury County when it was presented to the General Assembly of Tennessee in Aug 1807? I am still trying to find the parents of Sarah Jane HUMPHRIES, born 12 Mar 1796, and married ca. 1813 in Maury Co. to James CAMPBELL. JOHNSON, BROWN, WEATHERLY-- Would like to exchange notes with descendants of all Johnson, Brown and Weatherly families that lived in Maury County, Tenn. between 1800 and 1840. My G-G-Grandparents William R. Johnson b. 1814 and Charity Brown b. 1810, m. 1833, moved from Maury Co. to Marion Co., AL in 1839. MARTIN -- I am seeking information concerning the following: Sterling Neblett Martin, b. 14 Dec 1831, d. 7 Dec 1873. Raised in Spring Hill, Maury Co., TN., lived in Stanton, Haywood Co., TN. Mar. Almeda Jane Lyle, b. 29 Nov 1834, d. Aug 1923. Believed to be buried in Spring Hill Methodist Cem. with no headstone. Parents believed to be John and Mary.

McKENNON, CURRY, SIMS, HANVY -- I have been very fortunate to connect the McKennons and Currys back to James Curry, Sr., born in Cavan, Ireland in 1739. He went to Pittsylvania Co., VA. He and his wife, Margaret, had 7 children. The first son, James Curry, Jr., had eight children. The fourth was Nathan Curry, born in 1810 in Virginia. He died about 1880. He married Nancy Strong on Feb. 15 1836. Among the children, they had was Caledonia Mamie Curry, born in 1842 in Maury Co., TN. She married Daniel McKennon on Jan 2, 1860. One of their sons was Nathan Dee McKennon, born Aug. 8, 1873. He married Gertrude Sims. One of their children was Jeannie Marie McKennon Hanvy, my grandmother. It seems in all the material about the Curry family out there in cyberspace stops with Caledonia Mamie and does not link her to the McKennons. If you have any informatin about either family would you please let me know. Let's get this updated and get all of us in the record. Also, I know that Gertrude Sims was born Aug. 1, 1878 in Maury County and died July 18, 1963 in Mt. Pleasant. Her parents were James Hunter Sims and James' parents were William F. Sims and Elizabeth Brown. They were married Dec. 11, 1834. Gertrude Sims' mother was Teresa Worley, her parents were Wiley B. Worley, born 1816 in Tenn. and Arnita (can't read my mother's writing on the first name)--seems to be Arnita E. Hunt. They married on Sep. 22, 1850. Can you give me any information about them. Also, my grandfather was Elbert Cecil Hanvy. His parents were Arzo Frye Hanvy and Arie Kennedy Hanvy. Do you have any information about these lines. I would greatly appreciate anything you have. McKISSACK -- My family is just starting to do research on our McKissack line. From what we have found so far, there is a real possibility that our gggrandfather, William McKissack, is the son of William McKissack, son of Thomas McKissack who was the son of John McKissack. A member of the family recently sent us a copy of the McKissack family tree. Listed was a William McKissack who was born in 1842 with no listing of marriage, etc. It is known that the McKissack family owned and operated "brickyards". My gggrfather was also named William, his birth date was aabout 1840 (exact date unknown), and he owned and operated a brickyard. We would appreciate any sources of information available on the McKissacks of Maury Co., TN. MITCHELL -- Am seeking Thomas L. MITCHELL and Tobitha HUDSON who were married July 1846 in Maury Co., TN. NICHOLS -- Seeking info. on George W. Nichols (1828 - 1863), married Louisa Jane McMeen (1837-1906) on March 3, 1859 in Maury Co. According to family history, he died "up North during the War". They had a daughter, Georgia Anna (7 Aug 1862 - 11 Feb 1943) who married Columbus Jackson McKEE, son of Robert McKEE and Mary ROUNDTREE. He was a country doctor and brick mason, born about 1804 somewhere in KY., and died after 1869 in TN. His wife was named ANNE, and their children were James W. SIMS, WINN, TATUM -- Trying to identify the parents of my wife's g.grandfather, James W. Sims, b. about 1822-5 in Tn. He had a brother, Thomas H. Sims, born 1821. Both brothers married wives named Tatum. and were in Bedford County, TN. for the 1850 Census before moving west to Missouri about 1852. One source says that the parents were Thomas Sims and Mary Winn. Thomas Sims was the son of William Sims, a Revolutionary War veteran who d. in Maury Co. 1813-1816, and Judith Cross, both originally of Hanover Co., Va. Mary Win was the daughter of Col. SKILLINGTON -- Am seeking information on my SKILLINGTON ancestors. My gr.grandfather, John Jefferson SKILLINGTON (1871-1941) was born in AL. and I have reason to believe his relatives settled in Maury Co. area. His brother may(?) have been Joe Frank SKILLINGTON, whose son, Charlie raised the well known mules....I have, for John Jefferson, siblings: Joseph, William, Florence, Laura (who married a BERRY, I believe), and Susan (who married a BALL). His son Martin was a Harness Maker in Maury County. Martin married Jenny Fulton, daughter of the Steamboat man himself. Martin moved the family to Mississippi circa 1850's. WOOLDRIDGE, STEPHENS -- My husband's gggrandfather was John H. WOOLDRIDGE, b. 1806. He was said to be a manufacturer of shoes in Maury Co. He d. 13 Feb 1844. John H. and wife, Elizabeth STEPHENS were married in Williamson Co., TN on 6 Jul 1826. They were parents of seven children. John H. was the son of Josiah WOOLDRIDGE and Keziah NICHOLS. YOUNG, CHAFFIN, SCRIBNER -- I am looking for information on Robert Young, b. ca. 1806 in Kentucky, according to 1850 Tenn. Census. He lived in Maury Co. He mar. Matilda Chaffin, b. in Charlotte Town, VA. Robert was murdered at Culleoka on 09 Jul 1868 by a neighbor named Mash, who was also a relative. He had a son named John Marion Young who also lived in Maury Co. and was married to Susan R. Scribner. John Marion was a grist miller, and had a mill near Scribner's Mill for a number of years.
